What We Offer

TILT offers media literacy and video production workshops and classes to youth aged 12-22, offsite at Bay Area schools and community organizations, and onsite at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center in San Francisco.

A TILT workshop begins with a series of group building activities, improvisational exercises, and hands-on technical training. As students get to know one another and share stories, common interests and concerns emerge. Once a theme and a genre are agreed upon, students collaborate to write, script, cast, storyboard, direct, shoot, edit, and present a polished finished movie.

TILT-trained instructors are there to provide technical training, to support and facilitate the process, to challenge students to continually evaluate what messages they are sending and why, and to create a democratic, experience-based classroom where all voices are equally respected.

Students leave with valuable artistic, technical, and life skills such as leadership, collaboration, commitment, critical thinking, and an increased appreciation for media arts.
